Spanish Dramas on Netflix: A Review mikhail, May 19, 2023May 10, 2024 Here to share some Spanish dramas for you all to add to your watchlists and enjoy this summer! In this post, I will share some Spanish dramas I watched this year (and last year). This is an updated list since I accidentally deleted the other entry & couldn’t retrieve it. I’ll share what the dramas are about, and my ratings. These are (mostly) spoiler-free ratings. All these shows have English subtitles available, so definitely check them out! 1. Triptych / Tríada Summary: After finding out she is one of three identical triplets, a forensic detective embarks on a perilous journey to uncover the truth about her past & what has happened to her sister. Genre: Drama, Mystery Platform: Netflix Episodes: 8 Link: Triptych Rating: 9/10 Triptych gets a high rating of 9/10 solely for the fact that the main actress played all three triplets with extremely different personalities, mannerisms, and looks and did it well! It was easy to keep track of who was who & each of the sisters’ individual relationships with other side characters. It’s a short series & was a fun watch. 2. The Most Beautiful Flower / La Flor Más Bella Summary: Confident Mich knows she’s fabulous. Now she just has to convince everyone else at her Xochimilco high school to believe it too. Genre: Teen, Drama Platform: Netflix Episodes: 10 Link: La Flor Mas Bella Rating: 10/10 I absolutely loved La Flor Más Bella & the main character Mich was such a star! I wish it had more episodes because it was just that good so it definitely needs to be renewed for another season. The story is a coming of age story & Mich was the center of a love cube, which is like a love triangle but with three different people fighting for her love & attention. Mich also wasn’t in the popular group & strived to be a part of their group when she was just better on her own. Overall, I really liked Mich’s determination in getting center in the school play, figuring out her relationships & sexuality, figuring out whether she was joining the beauty pageant and more. 3. Who Killed Sara? / ¿Quién mató a Sara? Summary: After being framed for the death of his sister, Alex tries to find the real culprit and get his revenge. Genre: crime, thriller, mystery Platform: Netflix Episodes: 25 episodes total (3 seasons) Link: Who Killed Sara? Rating: 8/10 Who Killed Sara? was one of the very first Spanish shows I watched on Netflix. It has a soap opera pace, with each episode only being 30 minutes long. I watched Season 1 and 2 back to back & it was very entertaining. There were unexpected twists, and although it took a moment for me to keep track of every character’s relationships, it was entertaining. Season 3 simultaneously dragged on while tying up loose ends from past seasons which I give 8/10. This is one of those shows where if you suspend belief, don’t question anything being “realistic” and go with the flow, you’ll have a good time. 4. Control Z Summary: Sofia, an observant student, works to uncover a hacker that is releasing students secrets online to the entire high school. Genre: teen drama, school, mystery Platform: Netflix Episodes: 24 episodes total (3 seasons) Link: Control Z Rating: 9/10 Control Z kept me invested since I watched it after first starting Who Killed Sara?. I loved that the quiet student wasn’t suspected to be the culprit & used her observant nature to investigate who was releasing everyone’s secrets. With all the use of social media, dramas like this with a digital hacker or person sending evil messages is always entertaining to me. Similar to Who Killed Sara?, the final season dragged on & answered questions from previous seasons. 5. Rebelde Summary: Set at an elite private school, students band together and fight against each other to win Battle of the Bands. Genre: teen, drama, musical Platform: Netflix Episodes: 16 episodes total (2 seasons) Link: Rebelde Rating: 8/10 I love school-based dramas, so Rebelde definitely a fun watch. Dixon & MJ were definitely my favorite characters in both seasons. However, it was announced recently that it was canceled, so I’ll most likely just end up rewatching it again soon. I hope you enjoyed these recommendations, so if any of the summaries sparked your interest, definitely check them out, even if just one episode. You may love it!
